Stainless Steel Urinals

Stainless steel urinals are a popular choice in commercial and public washrooms due to their durability, hygiene, and ease of maintenance. When choosing a stainless steel urinal you should understand the benefits. Below are some key points about stainless steel urinals:

Advantages:

  • Durability: When looked after properly and treated correctly stainless steel is resistant to rust, corrosion, and staining, which makes it ideal for high-traffic environments.
  • Hygiene: The smooth surface of stainless steel makes it less prone to trap bacteria and other contaminants, making it easier to clean and maintain.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Stainless steel has a modern, sleek look that fits well in contemporary washroom designs.
  • Resistance to Damage: Unlike ceramic or porcelain urinals, stainless steel can withstand impacts either accidental or intentional and is less likely to crack or chip.
  • Recyclability: Stainless steel is a fully recyclable material, which adds to its environmental credentials. Most stainless steel has a high recycled content in its sheet form.

Types of Stainless Steel Urinals:

1. Wall-mounted Trough Urinals: These are installed directly onto the wall, offer a cost effective alternative to individual bowl urinals and are common in many public washrooms with a high level of traffic.

2. Floor-mounted Urinals: Though less common floor mounted urinals are installed on the floor and offer an easy to use urinal for users of all ages.

3. Waterless Urinals: Some stainless steel urinals are designed to operate without water, relying on gravity and special drain technology to eliminate odors and maintain hygiene. Whilst these can save water the ongoing maintenance needs to be kept up to prevent unwanted odours and blockages.

Maintenance:

Cleaning: Regular cleaning with warm soapy water is recommended. A non abrasive scotchbrite cleaning pad can be used with neat washing up liquid on stubborn dirt or stains.

Inspection: Regularly check for any signs of wear, leaks or damage, especially around joints and connections.

Drainage Maintenance: Ensure that drains are clear to prevent clogs and odors.

Considerations:

Installation: Professional installation is recommended to ensure compliance with plumbing codes and optimal function.

Design and Size: Choose a design that fits the washroom layout and ensure the size is appropriate for the anticipated user volume. The recommendation is a minimum of 600mm per user.

Cost: While stainless steel urinals can have a higher initial cost compared to ceramic options, the reduced installation costs and durability will lead to lower long-term maintenance costs.

Stainless steel urinals are a practical and stylish choice for any commercial washroom, especially in settings that prioritise hygiene and durability.
